Herbs

After a day with Claire W and the kids I went to get some herbs for the garden..
Hopefully will look stunning come summer. Right now it really does not feel like summer starts in a few days. Sky is dark and it is really cold and windy. Eeks!
Thankfully I have stocked up on yummy comfort food for us, just right for a cold winter night... J is still not well so I am looking after him tonight!

No events

Yesterday was pretty uneventful and we were both shattered. J has a cold and is not in a good place and had not been sleeping for days so was non communicative...
I did however on Tuesday make a very nice soup with beans and lots of veggies and thyme. To that I made some homemade bread. Nice in the winter to warm you up...

Crispy skin salmon

Tried a new recipe tonight , crispy skin salmon... Made in oven and was different and nice.
J loved it and I did too but for some reason the belly was not happy with the fennel seeds on the crispy skin. The baby was not a fan and now kicking like a mad person... :)

Sunday slow cooking yumminess

Sunday evening and J has just made a 3 hour short rib meal in the oven... Oh it was just so yummy!
I love cooking something like this on Sundays, it fills the house with wonderful aroma and makes it very 'homey'.
Think this one is going in the repertoire for 'Sunday' dinners...!

Saturday night

After a veeery long and grumpy day (me not J, he was trying all day to cheer me up but I had not slept for a week and was NOT very nice to have around... Miracle he still wants to be with me after yesterday :) ) we went to Nan and Captain for dinner.. Eh I meant Debbie and Kirk, however no one calls them that...
We had lovely mexican food and lots of laughs. I was deliriously tired but loved to see them and had a really good time. I was as always the designated driver and everyone else got stuck into the margaritas and for dessert a (they said) very nice dessert wine....
There is nothing like a night with friends....

Oh , I have forgotten to tell you about Plopp!!
Yesterday morning on the 'morning show' on the radio, they had one of those competitions where they ask people quick questions and if they answer right they win tix to a concert or something... (Read silly)
Anyway, one of the questions; 'what is the name of the best selling swedish chocolate'?. Obviously the person on the other end did not know the answer and they all pissed themselves laughing at announcing the name 'Plopp'....
Was very funny!
However if you have had one you would not laugh so hard, it is yummy!!!!! :)

Busy weekend

The weekend has been busy, gorgeous and just great... The weather has been fabulous and spring is in the air which is great news after a long winter (eh, even though we just got the end of it...).
I had the nana over for din dins and LOTS of chatting and giggling, went to the movies to see the Bourne Legacy, did some shopping for new wine racks and other things and last but not least saw the new addition to the Reed family ; Edward Reed. He is so tiny and so cute!!

Worked today. In the position I had before we left for qld. Now I am back for a few days filling in for the person that now has my role. Oh what a day!!! So great to be back and so good to see everyone. Felt terrific to be back and I loved it! Great day!
Oh but have forgotten how little time you have left in the evening.....
Back home , walk Frida, colorful beef stir fry and fruit sallad for dessert, talk with man about his day and mine, hot bath and I am already tucked in now...
(And been for a while...)

Sleeplessness

Did not sleep well last night and have been pretty comatose d today.  Did however, which happens a lot with m e when I am tired, get into ‘get things done’ mode and got a fair amount done.  i.e several machines of washing, clearing up in back yard, big walk with Frida, grocery shopping and made a big hearty soup..... Then afterwards hours on the sofa doing n nothing....

Looking forward to tomorrow which will not only be more interesting than today but I will be well rested and present.... Night night for now....

Dishwasher

New Samsung dishwasher got delivered and installed today. I am so excited!!!
How do people live without them?
It feels like forever but has only been a few weeks, and I have really missed having one... Seriously, it is so hard to get everything properly clean without a dishwasher it would drive me nuts not having one! Not to mention how much better a dishwasher is for the environment, now we will save on water as well. Happy days..

Saturday

Saturday was a lovely day, sunny, warm and just perfect. I was feeling better and had some energy for the first time in a week - nice!
We did so many things this day - started the day with long walk with Frida in the park, lots of playing!
Home, nice breakkie, then J went to help Frank with some moving around at their new place. Then we had a painter come around for a quote, and at same time the people who bought a set of white sofas ( we have too much stuff for this place ) came around to pick them up. Great result, we now have sooo much more space!!
Then off to buy a new dishwasher and dryer. Makes me so happy, how do people live without a dishwasher? - I love it and can't wait for tuesday when they'll come and install it!
Home, nap time, then off to see 2 houses for Clair and Paul. They are moving down shortly ( from Brissie) and want to live in the area around Annandale.
At night, dinner at La Grillade on the north side with Dave and Bianca. Lovely restaurant owned by the same people who owns Manta. Good food and we had so much fun!! I laughed a lot and stayed up longer than I have in ages... :)
That's Saturday really now sleepy time - Sleep well, I'm off to Bedfordshire..... xx

Ricotta Chicken bake

Friday night and Chicken filled with ricotta , lemon rind, sundried tomatoes, basil and chives...

Did not set the world on fire but was really nice...

Stir fry galore

Lovely stir fry for din dins tonight. Bill Granger never lets me down... :)

2 teaspoon cornflour
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon chinese five spice
400 gr lean pork in strips
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
3 tablespoons chicken stock
3cm fresh ginger , peeled and cut into strips
1 bunch broccilini cut into long florets (I put in more than that as I love broccolini!)
6 spring onions , chopped

Mix cornflour, sesame oil and five spice in an non metallic bowl, stir to coat pork and cover + refrigerate for at least 20 min.

Mix soy , hoisin and chicken stock and put to side.

Peanut oil in wok and add ginger, broccolini and spring onions and stirfry for a few min until broccolini is just cooked. Remove from wok.

Add pork in wok and stir fry until light golden or nearly cooked. Return vegetables , add the sauce and stir fry for 2 min.

Serve with jasmine rice.

Have a cold...

Slightly miserable (is it possible to be slightly miserable? :) as I have a cold. Freezing outside and inside (heater working overtime) and I had to sit for two (!) hours at the doctors yesterday in a freezing cold waiting room filled with sick people.. Guess that's why I feel like I have swallowed razor blades... Tomorrow after a good night sleep the world will be a better place!!
